Welcome to a blog where all comments on English as an International Language, on Multiculturalism, on Plurilingualism and on Cosmopolitanism are at the core of our hopefully interesting conversation. At the very end of this page, you will find the table of contents of this website which, I am happy to announce, has celebrated its 10th Anniversary 🎂🍾🎉and its on the verge of its bar-mitsva 😉
Vous enseigner ce que je sais ne m’intéresse pas. Je voudrais vous conduire à exprimer ce que vous savez.
(Robert Henri, peintre et maître de Hopper).
In this bilingual blog, you will find my full and (as often as possible) updated bibliography on plurilingualism and multiculturalism, some considerations regarding specific minorities (Indigenous people , Israel…), my poetic mood, our Academie Across Borders, sociolinguistics, my occasional interventions regarding the news including, reports and travel related editorials across my various postings, other topical pages as per the above menu in the upper section of each page such as Art, wanderings or “cosmo people” such as myself…and in the below self-introduction, I hope you’ll understand why, so….
Let me introduce myself a bit… French and Maltese citizen born in Montmorency in the French 95th department near Paris where I grew up, Swiss Resident, Scottish Baroness of Sefardic Jewish Tunisian, Italian, Palestinian, Turkish and Maltese descent, I am cosmopolitan by the grace of a diaspora heritage of over 2000 years.I obtained my PhD (magna cum laude) from the University PARIS-SORBONNE and taught in France, Canada, Switzerland and since 2003 in Algeria, as an Invited Professor at the University of Sidi Bel Abbès where I give occasional seminars. Parallel to my academic activities, I am teaching at the Ecole de Culture Générale Jean Piaget! This enables me to understand how priviledged and lucky I am to teach in Switzerland and how much I should give back to those in the rest of the world who are dedicated yet under-considered and/or underpaid for the most incredible occupation in the world, teaching. I travel quite a lot as you can see from the 85 destinations as different as South East Asia, the Middle East, Brazil, Polynesia and many more described in this blog; simply scroll down my homepage or look at the bottom of this page for a “reasoned topical table of contents”
I am a member of the Editorial Board of the French journal Droit et Cultures. My research and publications focus on the relation between International English, plurilingualism and multiculturalism. You will find on this blog my various publications and articles among which my contribution co-editor of the issue (72) of Droit et Cultures on :Indigenous Languages in the City, Masliah, Daphné and Hornsby, Michael (eds.) This blog is also dedicated to promoting a new network of active scholars,ACADEMIE SANS FRONTIERES-BORDERLESS ACADEMY-ACADEMY SIN FRONTERAS. I invite you to join and pledge for our pageand our groupon Facebook. Yes, I know and realize some of you are reluctant…I still believe that Facebook only uses what you choose to publish….and it’s a remarkable way to create a forum!
Talking about Forum, one of the achievements I take the most pride of, apart from ASF certainly is the creation of the very first group of Sociolinguists on Facebook. Among some of our achievements, we have detected new issues, identified new groups and conferences, issued a call for papers including only our members, initiated a very fruitful encounter in Peru, and certainly gather the most active scholars on Indigenous Languages Rights…Check for more info on our Indigenous Issues Page. And don’t forget to apply for membership to Sociolinguists group on Facebook, the first group of Sociolinguists on this social network to see such wonderful opportunities arise, and to Académie Sans Frontières-Borderless Academy-Academia Sin Fronteras the group. Both of these groups have related pages.
More about me? Well, check my latest publications (and help yourself to the raspberries, they are home grown!):
